Elopement in Japan | Tokyo Wedding Photographer

They travelled all the way from Australia to say “I do” in Japan

For this Australian couple, their elopement in Japan wasn't just about saying "I do" – it was about embarking on a new chapter of their lives together, filled with adventure, love, and endless possibilities. As they embarked on their journey to tie the knot in a foreign land, I was honored they entrusted their precious moments to me, capturing the essence of their love amidst the enchanting backdrop of Japan's cultural tapestry and nature.

Planning a Tokyo Elopement Like This

1. Choosing the Right Location

Tokyo offers an incredible range of backdrops within easy reach of the city center.

I always help couples scout locations that balance beauty with privacy, so your elopement feels authentic and unrushed. It’s important to know that not all locations allow wedding attire. Some shrines, temples, and public gardens in Japan prohibit photoshoots in bridal gowns or suits unless a special permit has been arranged. As your local photographer, I guide you through which places are accessible, which require advance booking, and which are off-limits.

2. Timing & Light

The right timing makes a huge difference:

  • Sunrise: Almost no crowds, soft and dreamy light. recommended for busy autumn months (November & December)

  • Late Afternoon / Golden Hour: Warm tones and a romantic glow before twilight.

  • Blue Hour & Evening : For couples who want Tokyo’s iconic neon as part of their story.

3. Hair, Makeup & Styling

The right hair and makeup artist can make you feel confident and polished while still natural in photos. I work with experienced Japan-based makeup and hair artists who know how to handle different skin tones, hair textures, and the demands of outdoor elopements. Whether you prefer a classic bridal look, something modern, or a minimal, natural style, I can connect you with trusted professionals who come to your hotel before we begin.
